Vintage Sportswear for Casca
January 2022
Building on Casca’s line of timeless sportswear silhouettes, a vintage trainer was developed in early 2022. The goal was to test a new “athletic” silhouette in order to transition towards more performance-focused styles in the future, developed rapidly with a small development budget.
Built upon a pre-fabricated (cut and buff) EVA and Rubber sole unit, the design aimed to capture the essence of early trainers in a ‘modern classic’. Having recently undergone a full-scope rebrand, Casca’s new ‘Arc’ logo was proudly placed along the quarter panel to help promote brand awareness. Crafted with CO2-free fabrics and suedes, as well as a specially developed raw-edged leather bonded to a French terry lining for the tongue. A variety of retro-inspired colourways were generated.
A key component of this project was the custom-designed rubber track. Working closely with our in-house 3D designer, I developed a design that would allow the full range of sizes (Women’s 5 to Men’s 15) to be produced using a single mould, keeping development and COGs low. We worked with a factory that would recycle the rubber off-cuts into new products, so we could keep waste low at the same time.
A vintage handball-inspired sneaker was developed as a complement to the runner silhouette. It was developed within a 1 month timeframe by reworking and adding panels atop Casca’s classic Salo silhouette.
