Leather Accessories for Norse Projects
March 2014
Developing a collection of leather goods and accessories was one of the first independent projects I was responsible for at Norse Projects. At the time, being relatively new to leatherworking, I began my research by handmaking a variety of prototypes to better understand the material and construction.
As the collection progressed, I sourced leathers from one of Scandinavia’s last remaining tanneries, Tärnsjö Garveri, and travelled to Ubrique, Spain, home to some of the finest leather artisans in the world. Crafted with braided nylon yarns, durable RiRi zippers and enamel-coated rifle clips, the collection connected Norse’s workwear and military influences with the brand’s penchant for clean Scandinavian design.
The initial release consisted of two vegetable-tanned leather variants which echoed the ethos of ‘honesty in materials’ prevalent in Arne Jacobsen and Børge Mogensen’s work.
