Vulcanized Plimsolls for Norse Projects
*Unreleased development
Designed and developed for Norse Projects, I researched the origins of canvas plimsolls and explored the vulcanization process to create two timeless, utilitarian designs. Early plimsoll designs typically mimicked the traditional Oxford / Short-Wing cut, while my iteration played off of the Long-Wing brogue and its more wet-weather-suited panelling.
The Bugt low prioritizes uninhibited flexibility with its slim vulcanized sole and lightweight British Millerain canvas.
The Mast high-top builds off the same design language, with heightened rubber foxing and a rubberized canvas guard around the toe and quarter. This rubberized canvas and the unvulcanized rubber foxing bake together at 170ºC during the cooking process to improve sole adhesion and weather protection.
What you don’t see is a durable felt mounting board replacing conventional cardstock under the foot and a perforated PU footbed for improved comfort.
