Stoflighed Collection
Norse Projects x Vans x Fritz Hansen x Kvadrat
September 2013
During my tenure at Norse Projects, I had the opportunity to curate a project with a number of internationally acclaimed brands with deep ties to 60’s counter culture. Released at Colette, Paris in late 2013, the “Stoflighed” (‘Materiality”) project applied two of Kvadrat’s renowned fabrics onto Vans footwear and Fritz Hansen’s furniture designed by Poul Kjaerholm.
The footwear collection features two distinct colour palettes for the Vans Era and Vans Chukka respectively. The Era palette reflects the rich tones prevalent during California’s hippie movement and the exploding surf culture that coincided with Vans early growth. The Chukka palette connects to the rebellious Scandinavian Modernist movement which continues to impact design and architecture to this day. Custom-fabricated Poul Kjaerholm daybeds and folding stools were produced by Fritz Hansen, each of which corresponded to the Era and Chukka palettes, to be unveiled at Colette Paris in September 2013.
For a young industrial designer, it was a tremendous honour to lead the concept and design for this project alongside Norse Projects founder, Tobia Sloth and Colette founder, Sarah Andelman.
